ClinAssess is a clinical assessment platform used by medical schools to manage, mark, and archive student clinical work — and it's one of several systems built and operated by Graundra. This page explains what the Platform does day-to-day, and how it fits into the wider way Graundra builds and hands over software to the institutions it serves.
1. What ClinAssess Does
ClinAssess is a digital platform for running clinical assessments in medical education — the practical, real-world evaluations that measure a student's readiness to practice medicine, not just their exam scores. It replaces paper forms, scattered spreadsheets, and manual filing with a single system that covers the whole assessment lifecycle:
- Structured assessment forms — Pre-FQE, FQE, Long Case, HSM Oral, Community Health, and End of Rotation assessments, each with the right fields, qualification checks, and sign-off flow for that assessment type.
- Submission and originality checks — students upload clinical case write-ups and logs, which are automatically screened for duplicates and near-duplicates before they reach an examiner.
- Role-based review — lecturers, Heads of Department, and external examiners each see the views and approval steps relevant to their role.
- Records and reporting — every assessment is stored, searchable, and exportable, giving institutions a reliable academic record instead of a filing cabinet.
2. Who It's Built For
ClinAssess is built for medical schools and the people inside them: students submitting clinical work, lecturers and examiners marking it, Heads of Department signing off on results, and administrators managing the process end to end. It's currently deployed for Kabarak University's School of Medicine, with the platform designed to extend to other institutions running similar clinical assessment programs.
3. Built and Run by Graundra
ClinAssess isn't a standalone company — it's one of several systems built and operated by Graundra, a software company that builds digital systems for institutions, government bodies, private organizations, and individuals. Graundra's model is to design, build, host, and manage multiple systems at once, each serving a different institution or purpose, rather than spinning up a separate company for every product.
That's why ClinAssess runs on a Graundra subdomain (kabarak.clinassess.graundra.com) rather than its own top-level domain. The subdomain reflects where the system currently sits in its lifecycle, not a limit on what it can do.
4. The Piloting Model
New systems under Graundra typically start in a piloting phase. During piloting:
- Graundra hosts the system on infrastructure it manages and controls directly.
- Graundra often sponsors the system's running costs — hosting, storage, and core development — so the institution can adopt and test it without upfront infrastructure investment.
- The system operates under a Graundra subdomain, making clear it's part of a larger, actively maintained portfolio rather than an isolated, unsupported project.
- Feedback from real use shapes the product before any long-term commitment is made on either side.
This lets institutions like Kabarak's School of Medicine adopt ClinAssess with low risk, while Graundra absorbs the early infrastructure and development cost of proving the system works.
5. The Path to Independence
Piloting isn't meant to be permanent. As a system matures and either becomes self-funding — through the institution taking over its own costs — or secures its own funding, Graundra's role shifts:
- The system is moved off the shared Graundra subdomain onto its own dedicated domain.
- Operational and financial control is handed to the institution or the system's own team.
- Graundra steps back from day-to-day management, retaining a build/support relationship where needed rather than direct control.
In short: Graundra incubates, sponsors, and manages a system through its early life, then detaches — leaving the institution with a proven platform, its own domain, and full control.
6. Why This Model Matters
This structure means an institution doesn't need its own engineering team, hosting budget, or infrastructure expertise to get a working, actively maintained system from day one. Graundra carries that weight during the phase where it's hardest to justify — before the system has proven its value — and steps back once the institution is ready to own it outright.
